Description: The Vineyard Conservation Society was founded in 1965 in response to the threat of developement of the Lobsterville Moors of Aquinnah. Since that successful fight the Society has broadened the scope of its concerns to become proactively involved in preserving land, defending the Island from unwise development, and educating the public on environmental issues. VCS is the only Island environmental organization with such a threefold mission, uniquely positioning it to act on a broad range of fronts.
